K P Singh wins special NDTV Award

Mr. K.P.Singh has won the NDTV Special Award in Business. At a glittering awards function at the Taj Palace on January 17, the DLF chairman was among a galaxy of eminent personalities to be honoured for their contributions in various fields, ranging from business and politics to sports and films.

The citation said: “K.P. Singh presides over the DLF group, India’s largest real estate development company. As of October 6, 2007, his net worth was calculated at $32.9 billion. He is credited with converting Gurgaon into a real estate hotspot”.

Responding to Special Award in Business, Mr. K. P. Singh said he was touched to receive such an honour in the presence of such a galaxy of eminent personalities, including the Prime Minister.

He said he regarded this as a recognition of the efforts put in by the entire DLF corporate family, especially his son, Rajiv Singh and the young and dynamic DLF management team of talented professionals. With characteristic humility, he said: “It is they who are the real architects of DLF’s success story”.

The DLF chairman said that while the year 2007 was undoubtedly a turning point in the corporate history of DLF, it was also a momentous year for the country as a whole - in terms of impressive economic growth and global recognition of India’s capabilities.

He pointed out that this growth of the national economy had led to an unprecedented upsurge in people’s aspirations and a yearning among all sections of the population for better living standards and for affordable housing. This is where DLF comes in, he emphasised. Ever since the inception of the company, the mission has been to make a significant contribution to the task of providing affordable homes for all, supported by world-class urban infrastructure.

He pointed out that providing affordable housing for all sections of the population was a “national challenge”, which calls for Herculean efforts by all concerned - the public and private sectors, as well as the Governments in both the Centre and the States.

He said the award would act as an inspiration “to re-double our efforts to carry forward our mission of Building India” and added:

“But the task has just begun. The time has come to Think Big and create surpluses”.
